Soldier, pioneer, and Indian fighter. Led expedition to conquer Illinois country (Northwest). DS, twice signed (front & back), 1p, 4to, "Falls of Ohio", 23 September 1781, certifying sum owing to a carpenter "on the Western Expedition under the command of Brigadier General George Rogers Clark, at one Dollar for a Day, and Fifty-Eight Days Service as Master Artisian . . . " Also signed by Major George Walls, deputy quartermaster general; on verso a receipt signed by payee and witnessed by Clark; text of document very light but legible. Signatures are dark.
