Roy Long encouraged members to continue selling chicken barbeque tickets. Top ticket sellers will eat a steak dinner at a future Club meeting.

Tom Penfield gave the Club an update on the Terrific Kids. The next program will be at Garrison-Pilcher on September 27, 2001.

Byron Rhodes welcomed our three 4-H club members. Amanda Carter, Hillary Hutchinson, and Matthew Parramore came selling peanuts.

Gene Richardson reported on the Reading is Fundamental Program recognizing Tony Chapman, Fred Dorminy, Jim Hardy, Allan McNabb, and Bob Parrish. We still need volunteers for this rewarding programs. Think about helping out!

Communications: Tim Willis read the Club a letter from Maureen Owen thanking the Club for it's presence as honorary pallbearers at Bill's funeral service. She expressed her appreciation for our support through Bill's illness and for the book, "Trees of Georgia and Adjacent States," donated to the library in Bill's memory.

Program: Jim Hardy introduced Asun Ellis, Executive Director of CASA (Thomas County Court Appointed Advocates). CASA is comprised of trained volunteers who represent children in court for child abuse. These volunteers also counsel the families of abused children. CASA was born in 1977 as a result of an act passed in Washington in 1974 recognizing the need for child advocates in court. Initially, courts would appoint attorneys. Because the attorneys generally didn't have the time to thoroughly investigate a child's background and family situation, the CASA program took the place of the attorney. Georgia was the 46th state to adopt the CASA program. CASA is a non-profit program, one-third of which is state funded. Remaining funds are derived from the local community.

Upcoming Programs: September 14/State Representative John Bulloch

Happy Bucks & Auction: Jim Cable raked in mucho happy buckaroos from Club members by asking a dollar from those who were happy that Thomasville High beat Cairo, winning the famed Syrup Pitcher Trophy. According to Jim, the syrup pitcher was introduced by the Roddenberry family of Cairo in 1955. To the chagrin of Cairo, Thomasville High took the trophy in 1955, 1956, and 1957.

Byron Rhodes gave a buck commending Jim Cable for his craft in procuring so many happy bucks from the crowd.

Jimmy Clanton gave a buck and invited the men to the First Baptist Men's meeting on Tuesday.

John Hand gave a buck to welcome Gene Sampson back.

Rick Thomas threw an elated buck to say he was nearly finished with the program scheduling for the year.

Auctioned off for $33 were a Bulldog cap and golf shirt and 2 tickets to a Thomasville High versus Thomasville Central game.

Interclub Report: Tim Chastain announced that the Sunrise Kiwanis will hold its annual installation banquet on September 18th in the Thomasville High School cafeteria. Festivities begin at 6:30pm and tickets are $10 per person. Call Tim Chastain for more information.
