Gerald N. Kadis, MD and Craig A. Fredericks, MD bring over 25 years of combined clinical experience in neurosurgery to the Institute. Patients suffering from chronic neck and back pain, herniated lumbar disc, spinal stenosis, trauma, carpal tunnel syndrome, intracerebral pathology and extracranial vascular problems may be assessed for surgical or nonsurgical treatment. The physicians' practice philosophy involves the serious consideration of non-surgical modalities of treatment as well as high quality surgery, if indicated. |

The Institute offers particular expertise in spinal surgery. Patients who are candidates for spinal stabilization experience tremendous increase in mobility, strength, range of motion and pain relief following the surgery.
Another exciting field that the Institute has pioneered in this region is in developing new methods of pain control for patients suffering from chronic pain. Our neurosurgeons are the only surgeons in this region offering implantable morphine pumps and the dorsal column stimulator. The implantable pumps are inserted by the surgeon and subsequent dosing is managed by the nurse clinician without further surgery.
With the dorsal column stimulator, the implanted computer sends electronic messages along the nervous system to block the pain pathways. Patients with epidural fibrosis, arachnoiditis, arthritis, orthopedic conditions, peripheral neuropathy, or cancer are given the chance for significant pain relief.
