THE SCHOOL

Brookwood School is an independent, co-educational, college preparatory school which offers a superior educational opportunity to qualified students from four years old through twelfth grade. The mission of the school is to nurture each child in his development as a whole person, one who as an adult will contribute with integrity and responsibility to his work, community, and nation. To realize the maximum potential of each student, Brookwood is devoted to the task of fostering not only mental growth but also physical development, social interaction, aesthetic appreciation, and spiritual nourishment. Toward this end, the school provides caring, accomplished instructors, a spiraling, basics-oriented curriculum, and superior facilities. Students work, learn, and grow in an atmosphere that blends structure with freedom and academic demands with wholesome activities.

In choosing Brookwood, parents can be sure that cherished family values will be sustained by their child's school environment.

THE CAMPUS

Brookwood is located on 40 acres of land among tall pines and live oaks. The beautifully landscaped campus has eight buildings. The campus includes football, baseball, and softball fields set in a natural valley, a track, tennis courts, an outdoor basketball court, and a well-equipped athletic activities center containing the latest weight-lifting equipment. Enticing playgrounds adjacent to the Lower School provide a variety of recreational structures for younger children to engage in creative play.

The main buildings of the campus enclose a central quadrangle which serves as an outdoor commons area for all of the school community. A gymnasium building also houses six classrooms, a stage, and the cafeteria. In the science center, biology and chemistry laboratories contain the best available scientific equipment. With classrooms for first through fifth grade, the Lower School is focused around a spacious, open learning area used for enrichment activities such as computer instruction, drama, art, and music presentations. A separate pre-school complex is dedicated to the education of four and five-year-olds.

The facilities include an administrative building with six classrooms, an indoor commons area, and a state-of-the-art computer center. Flanking this central structure are the arts pavilion and library, each connected by a breezeway. The spacious art studio employs natural light, with an adjacent patio for outdoor art. The studio features equipment and space for pottery and photography. The dual library provides separate sections for the diverse needs of Lower and Middle/Upper School students. Complete electronic research equipment gives faculty and students immediate access to needed information. The library is designed for optimal comfort, private study, leisure browsing, and easy use by all ages.

In choosing Brookwood, parents can know that their child will be educated in a safe, up-to-date, comfortable, aesthetic environment.

THE FACULTY

The relationship between faculty and students is the heart of Brookwood. Master teachers, most of whom hold advanced degrees from the nation's leading institutions, are chosen on the basis of character, professional qualifications, and a sincere desire to help students progress in all areas of their lives. Each teacher is a role model, challenging students with high expectations accompanied by understanding, love, and humor.

Brookwood teachers encourage students to strive for their own personal best. In turn, the faculty themselves are stimulated to reach for excellence as they participate in the compelling dialogue between student and teacher.

Small classes at every level allow the close contact and one-on-one instruction that assures a student of the teacher's genuine interest in his or her success. Brookwood teachers are patient mentors capable of inspiring young lives; creative instructors experienced in motivating young minds; and supportive friends willing to share young interests.
